Senior Mackenzie Ramey anticipates a rebound during their game against Clio on Friday, Feb. 22.

Last week, the girls basketball team defeated two league teams — Clio and Holly.

The Hornets finished second in the Metro League with a 14-2 record and are 17-3 overall.

Clio

On Friday, Feb. 22, Kearsley defeated the Mustangs 56-35 at Clio.

Senior Mackenzie Ramey led the game with 14 points and six rebounds.

Ramey said her team stepped up in an intense environment on the road.

“I feel like we did (play well) because Clio definitely has the best student section in the Metro,” Ramey said. “Being able to play with a huge crowd and playing with a lot of noise is hard to do in basketball, and we used it to motivate us even more.”

Ramey said she has seen herself improve as the season has progressed, which has led to the team improving as well.

“I think I’ve improved as a leader, so being able to communicate with my team has helped not only me, but my teammates trust one another,” Ramey said.

Holly

On Wednesday, Feb. 20, the Hornets defeated Holly 53-39 during their make-up game at home.

This game was rescheduled due to snow days.

Junior Sydney Walker led the way with 13 points.

Sophomore Saniia Walker, junior Jakeira Wash, and senior Zaria Mitchner all added 10 points each.

The Hornets will be back out on the court Tuesday, Feb. 26, at home for their last regular-season game against Detroit Edison.
