Teachers, administrators, and board members cheer on seniors as they drive by at the senior salute Tuesday. May 12, at KHS.

Graduating seniors were honored Tuesday, May 12, with a drive-thru celebration in the bus loop of KHS.

Teachers, administrators, and Board of Education members lined the school entrance — while complying with social distancing rules — to cheer on the seniors as they drove by.

Yard signs with each senior’s yearbook picture and name were placed along the loop.

Senior Shelby Cranmer attended the senior salute.

Cranmer said that the event made her very emotional.

“It was very emotional to me to see the high school staff, teachers, school board, and even teachers and staff from other Kearsley schools,” Cranmer said, “but it was so nice to see them.

“It helped being able to see my classmates and teachers. It showed that even though I feel alone sometimes, I’m not.”

Seniors and their families were asked to stay inside of their cars during the celebration, but each senior was able to collect and take home their yard sign.

The event occurred from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Senior Autumn Sears feels that the Senior Salute was nice but does not take place of traditional activities.

“It was nice to see the teachers,” Sears said.”It helped a little bit but it obviously doesn’t take place of traditional senior activities we missed out on.”
