Dive into the excitement: imagine the adrenaline rush of diving into a pool, surrounded by the encouragement of your teammates and the calming sound of your body gliding through the water. The thrill of competition, the anticipation of achieving personal bests, and the desire to excel as a team as well as an individual – these are the elements that define Kearsley’s High School Girls’ Varsity Swim Team.

Upon asking these swimmers what their favorite thing about swim was, they all answered without hesitation, so let’s dive right into what they had to say.

“The reason I love swimming is because of the bonds I have with my teammates and I love the workout every day. I love getting closer to my upperclassmen friends on the team. I enjoy going to all the different schools for our meets and have lots of fun doing chants and cheering everyone on. Being a part of the team is very fun and I plan on swimming for the rest of my high school years,” explained, freshman, Layla Harding.

Freshmen, Alina Lazo, had a somewhat similar answer to what her favorite thing about swim is, “I enjoy swimming because you create bonds with people you normally wouldn’t see yourself associating with. I’ve gained so many new friends through the years of swimming that I don’t wanna give it up, yes it’s hard and everything but I enjoy it so I’ll push myself through it. I love the fact that I can call myself a part of a team, we’ve all created bonds and it’s something I can’t really explain.”

Juniors, Amelia Sporman, Addyson Gerace, and Tori Trobaugh, and senior, Elizabeth Soper all agree that one of their favorite things about swim is being in the water. Junior, Sami Miller loves doing flip-turns, freshman, Ella Faulkner loves swimming freestyle, freshman, Taybor Soper loves diving and freshman, Elisabeth Horne really enjoys swimming butterfly and freestyles. To sophomore, Sarah Chambers, the best part of swim is the feeling you get when you hit the water, to her there is nothing better than that.

Freshman, Molly Gaudard and sophomore, Emma McCormick, both love the people they have met while being a part of the swim family and continuing to meet new people. Senior, Ava Boggs, sophomore, Waas Davis-Hernandez, freshman, Kara Marks, and senior, Carla Miro’s favorite part of swim is the team and the environment they create with each other.

Both freshman, Ciara Teller and senior, Lorenza Cefalo’s favorite thing about swimming is the coach, Marci Sporman. All the girls on the team look up to Coach Sporman and see her as a friend more than an authority figure, this creates a comfortable environment for the girls.

The Girls Varsity Swim Team always welcomes new teammates with open arms and can always use new swimmers. If swimming piques your interest, it’s worth trying and if it isn’t for you, then that’s okay. But, maybe it is for you!
