Tennis earns first victory of the season

The tennis team won its first match of the season at Durand 6-2 on Tuesday, April 12.

At No. 2 singles, senior Shelby Coates won her first match of the season 6-1, 6-3.

Senior Alysa Figgins, at No.3 singles, won her second match of the season with the same score.

Junior Hannah Brackin, at No . 4 singles, snatched another win for KHS 6-3, 6-1.

Three doubles teams also contributed to Kearsley’s victory.

The No. 1 doubles team of seniors Jasmine Patrick and Kelsie Rose won 6-2, 6-4.

The team of Aysia Booth, senior, and Stephanie Lane, freshman, won their match, 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (7-3), at No. 2 doubles.

And to wrap up the wins for KHS, senior Jordan Gohs and junior Bree Rosenbum, No. 3 doubles team, won 5-7, 7-6 (8-6), 10-7.

Gohs was excited about her and Rosenbum’s victory.

“It was a really close match,” Gohs said. “Durand played strong and I’m proud that Bree and I pulled through with a win, along with many other members of our team.”

The Hornets compete in a quad tournament at Lapeer on Saturday, April 16.
