Tennis finishes ninth at regional

Junior Hannah Brackin, at No. 4 singles, won her first round match against Bay City Central 6-1, 6-3.

The tennis team took ninth place at the MHSAA Division 2 Regional on Thursday, May 19.

The Hornets earned three first round wins for the first time in eight years.

At No. 3 singles, senior Alysa Figgins won her first round against Bay City Western 6-2, 6-2, gaining a point.

She then lost to Petoskey 6-2, 6-1.

Junior Hannah Brackin, at No. 4 singles, defeated Bay City Central in the first round 6-1, 6-3, also gaining a point for the team.

Brackin then fell to Petoskey 6-0, 6-0.

The only doubles team to gain a point was senior Jordan Gohs and junior Bree Rosenbum, at No. 3 doubles, against Brandon with a final score of 1-6, 6-4, 7-5.

They then lost against Bay City Central in the second round 6-1, 6-0, marking the end of their season.

Brackin was happy with the team’s performance.

“Everyone on the team tried their best and played well,” Brackin said. “This has definitely been a great season.”
