Junior Lindsay Nofs, at No. 1 singles, prepares to hit a return shot on April 30 at home against Swartz Creek.

The tennis team tied with Bay City Western for 10th place at the Division 2 regional tournament on May 15.

Due to the cold and rainy weather, the participating teams played indoors. Single flights 2 through 4 played at the Genesee Valley Sports Complex, while single flight one and all doubles flights played at the Genesys Athletic Club.

Junior Lindsay Nofs, at No. 1 singles, won her first round against Alpena 6-2, 7-6 (7-4), gaining a point.

Nofs then lost to Petoskey, 6-0, 6-0, in the second round.

At No. 2 doubles, juniors Aysia Booth and Makenzie Schroeder won their first round 6-4, 6-4, also gaining a point for the team.

In the second round, Booth and Schroeder lost to Petoskey, 6-1, 6-0.

No other flights won their first round, but Nofs believes everyone did well.

“I was very proud of the way my team competed,” Nofs said. “Their attitude toward the other teams was very positive, and it made me happy to see how well my team has improved.”
