Sophomore Connor Vansteenburg led Kearsley to a fifth-place finish at the district tournament in St. Johns on May 20.

The golf team took fifth place at the Division 2 MHSAA district tournament at The Emerald on May 20 in St. Johns.

Sophomore Connor Vansteenburg led the charge for the Hornets with 84 strokes.

Senior Evan Flood and junior Brian Sams both shot an 87.

Coach Andy Nester was proud of Vansteenburg’s performance at districts.

“It was a good round for Connor,” Nester said. “He’s been in a bit of a slump, but he’s starting to show signs of his true potential.”

The Hornets shot well enough to make it to the Regional tournament on May 27, which will be held at Brookside Golf and Country Club.
