Baseball wins Mt. Morris Tournament

The baseball team defeated Carman-Ainsworth in the championship game to win the Mt. Morris Tournament on Saturday, May 13.

The baseball team won the Mt. Morris Tournament Saturday, May 13, after beating Mt. Morris and Lansing Waverly, and then knocking off Carman-Ainsworth in the championship game.

Kearsley 3, Mt. Morris 2

Sophomore Dustin Bennett started the game for the Hornets, allowing only four hits in a solid performance.

Senior Mitchell Conely led the team offensively, along with sophomores Ethan Livingston and Devon Vaughn, who had two hits apiece.

Vaughn knocked in two of Kearsley’s three runs, and both of his hits went for doubles.

Kearsley 4, Lansing Waverly 3

Senior Ryan McCoy took the mound, just three days after starting a combined no-hitter.

McCoy allowed four hits in this start and came away with the win.

On offense, McCoy had two doubles. Conely had two runs scored.

The winning run came in thanks to Livingston’s sacrifice bunt.

Kearsley 12, Carman-Ainsworth 2

Livingston still had more in him after two games, and took the mound to start.

He lasted five innings, allowing six hits before getting some help from the bullpen.

Conely showed why he is one of the team’s captains, once again leading the charge on offense.

Having won five in a row, the Hornets will go for six straight when they take on Flushing on Monday, May 15.
