A popular app called Trivia Crack recently shot to the No. 1 spot on iTunes’ Top Free App chart.

The app was released in May 2014 but has only recently become popular locally.

Senior Haleigh Rybka learned about Trivia Crack through her friends and social media.

“I played it a lot, anywhere I went, all six hours of the school day and  throughout the night,” Rybka said.

Trivia Crack is a game where players can test their knowledge and challenge their friends to see who is a trivia genius.

There are six trivia categories that a player can be tested in: geography, history, art, science, entertainment, and sports.

Players spin a wheel to pick a category. They must answer whatever question that pops up correctly in order to progress.

The objective is to collect a character from each category.

If players land on the crown space on the wheel, or if they answer three questions correctly in a row, they may pick a category. If they answer that question correctly, they get that category’s character.

Players may also choose to challenge their opponents in order to steal a character from them.

If neither player gets all six characters, then the player that has the the most characters after 25 rounds wins the game.

Freshman Anastasia Cummings plays Trivia Crack as well. Her best category is entertainment, while her worst is history.

Cummings enjoys the app because when she gets a question wrong she learns the correct answer and the facts stick in her head.

I would find myself playing Trivia Crack instead of paying attention in class. I just spent way too much time playing the game.

Sophomore Rebecca Moyer, another Trivia Crack player, said that she likes the app because she can challenge her friends to see who knows more.

“It’s educational because you learn a lot of stuff you didn’t know before,” Moyer said.

Just like many popular apps, people find themselves addicted to the game.

Rybka had to delete Trivia Crack from her phone only after a week of playing it.

“It became over-addicting,” Rybka said. “I would find myself playing Trivia Crack instead of paying attention in class. I just spent way too much time playing the game.”
