Girls’ track loses close meet to Clio

The girls’ track team lost its meet at Clio 71-66 Wednesday, April 27.

Junior Ave’r McKay finished first in the 100-meter dash, running it in 13.70.

McKay also placed first in the 200 and 400 dashes, running times of 27.74 and 1:05.90, respectively.

Senior Emalie Lewis placed second in the 400 dash, finishing in 1:08.26.

Freshman Emma Bishoff and junior Savannah Jones finished in second and third in the 800, running their races in 2:40.43 and 3:02.91, respectively.

Bishoff also placed second in the 1600 run, finishing her event in 6:18.40.

In the 100 hurdles, Kearsley finished second — Jones, 22.72 — and third — freshman Briahna Greer, 23.50.

Greer also scored in the 300 hurdles, finishing second in 1:10.01. Freshmen Demia Johnson placed third in 1:16.71.

The 800 relay team, consisting of Lewis, Madison Jordan, Brittney Williams, and Greer placed first place in 2:05.68.

The 1600 relay team also placed first with a time of 4:34.87.

The team included McKay, Bishoff, Jordan, and Lewis.

In the shot put, sophomore Quashayla Johnson won the event. Her best throw was 28 feet, 11 inches.

Sophomore Barbara Hawes finished second with a put of 24-04.

Freshman Mary Wheeler won the discus event, throwing 73-09, while Hawes placed third with 64-foot throw.

In the high jump, Jordan, a sophomore, finished second, jumping 4-02, and senior Miranda Lumetta finished third with a jump of 4-00.

The third place finisher in pole vault was senior Halley Huber. Huber vaulted 7 feet.

In the long jump, sophomore Dy’amond Richardson and freshman Paige Kuta placed second and third with jumps of 11-10 and 11-05, respectively.

The Hornets’ next meet is against Brandon and Swartz Creek at home, Wednesday, May 4.
