Boys track wins one, loses one in double dual

The boys track team won against Linden, 84.5 – 52.5 and lost against Flushing, 86 – 51, at home.

The meet was a double dual meet, Friday, May 10.

Junior Taveon Harris was the leading scorer for the Hornets, winning three of the sprint events.

Harris won the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.36, a new personal record. Junior Tommy Plunkey finished in third place, at 11.66.

In the 200 dash, Harris finished first in 23.17, also a new personal record.

The Hornets took first and second in the 400.

Harris took first with a time of 52.21, and junior Tre’Ron Griffin finished in 52.82.

Senior Hunter Stanley and junior Gavin Etson finished second and third, respectively, in the 110 high hurdles.

In the 110s, Stanley had a time of 17.85 with Etson coming in behind him at 18.15.

In the 300 hurdles, Stanley hurdled for second, coming in at 44.26. Etson came in at third, with a time of 46.00.

The 400 relay team, consisting of Erick July, Eddie Harris, Jaylon Burchfield, and Plunkey, finished second. The team had a time of 45.87.

Griffin, Stanley, Raydoffa Braziel, and Taveon Harris made up the 1600 relay. They placed second running their race in 3:39.99.

The 3200 relay placed second as well. This relay consisted of Josh Bischoff, Lorenzo Hosch, Donald Martin, and Braziel. Their time was 9:17.99.

The Hornets also had success in the throwing events.

In the shot put, Eddie Harris won, throwing 44 feet, 11 inches. Sophomore Dylan Buschur placed third, with a distance of 41-03.

Buschur went on to win the discus, throwing 122-07. Senior Seth Cherubini placed third, throwing 114-06.

Etson won the long jump, jumping 18-09.5, a season record.

The Hornets are 6-2 overall, 5-2 in the Metro League.

They will compete next at Davison, Friday, May 10, at the Davison Twilight Classic.
