The boys’ track team won its track meet against Clio 78-50 Wednesday, April 28.

The Hornets had several first place finishes.

Sophomores Taveon Harris and Tre’Ron Griffin placed first and second in the 100-meter dash, respectively, running their races in 11.66 and 11.67.

Harris and Griffin also placed first and second in the 200 dash.

Griffin won the sprint in 23.72, and Harris ran a 24.12.

Senior Jonathan McKay placed first in the 400 dash, with a time of 54.37.

McKay also placed first in the 800 in 2:09.32.

In the 110 hurdles, senior Matt Parkinson finished in 16.85, taking first.

Junior Hunter Stanley finished his 300 hurdles in first place, running his race in 44.28.

Three of Kearsley’s relay teams placed first.

The Hornets’ 400 relay team, consisting of Griffin, senior Mario Nichols, Harris, and Parkinson, finished in 46.30.

The 800 relay team of Griffin, Harris, senior Deandre Webster, and Parkinson also finished first in 1:35.46.

Ending the meet, the 1600 relay team, consisting of senior Gabe Reese, sophomore Malik Davis, senior Deitrick Young, and McKay, finished its race in 3:46.73.

The Hornets managed to sweep the shot put.

Junior Seth Cherubini won with a throw of 39 feet 3 1/2 inches.

Junior Jamelco Harvey and freshman Dylan Buscher finished second and third, throwing 38-05 and 36-09, respectively.

Cherubini, Buscher, and Harvey also swept the discus with throws of 101-00, 100-06, and 98-03 respectively.

Finishing first in the high jump was junior Demonte Bullock, jumping 5-08.

The Hornets also had success in the long jump. Sophomore Gavin Etson placed second with a jump of 17-07 while freshman Saif Dawan finished third with a length of 17-03.

Kearsley’s next meet is Wednesday, May 4, in a double-dual meet at home against Swartz Creek and Brandon.
