There are five haunted houses worth visiting in the greater Flint area.

Imagine having a rush of adrenaline and excitement pushed by fear. This is what you may experience in a haunted house.

With Halloween only a few days away, the haunted house season is in full swing. Therefore, all the haunted houses, trails, and amusement parks are open for business.

Here is what I think are the top haunted houses in our area.

The Crypt

This haunted house is held by Chemco, located in Burton, and has been open for 10 years.

Natural fears are taken into consideration, using the illusion of dark and enclosed spaces in parts of the house.

Other than some typical fears, they also play with your reflexes. There are actors that get in your face and possibly jump in front of you to create that quality scare.

Having been to The Crypt before, I would recommend it for someone that likes scary special effects.

Exit 13

Located in Mt. Morris, this haunted house allows the actors to really cause a scare.

The actors are allowed to appropriately touch you while you make your frightful journey through the house.

Senior Christen Seidor was frightened when it came to being able to be touched.

“When I saw the waiver that said we could be touched, I got really scared,” Seidor said.

On busy nights, you can even watch short horror films while in line.

“The scariest part was when a guy put a real chainsaw on me,” Seidor said, “even though it had the plastic covering on it.”

If you like to be put into somewhat-real situations, this haunted house is for you.

Saint Lucifer’s Haunted Asylum

That’s right, a haunted asylum — right on Dort Highway.

This asylum is abandoned, but the patients that were in this asylum were tortured, resulting in a high mortality rate.

In the endeavor of this asylum, you will get to see the world of these patients, and not all of them are happy.

I recommend this haunted asylum for a good spook, but not so much for a jump.

13 Feet Under

This haunted house is located next to Saint Lucifer’s Haunted Asylum.

The house is actually 13 Feet Under, and takes you into the underworld.

Although I have not visited this haunted house, I have heard that it is one of the best.

Erebus

This haunted attraction in Pontiac has four stories and has been recognized by the Guinness World Record for how large it is.

The name Erebus is a Greek word used to describe the waiting room for Hell.

I think with this haunted house, the experience is all about the people you go through it with.

Erebus is over a mile long, so you should be sure to go with someone who, even with being scared, would not want to leave.
