Boys’ basketball beats Owosso
The boys’ basketball team faced Owosso in their final regular season game on March 7 at home, winning 58-54.
The game began with the team’s five seniors taking the court, outscoring Owosso 18-8 in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Trojans stepped up their game, adding 16 points, while the Hornets (12-8) only added seven.
After halftime, the Hornets kept up their offensive tactics, scoring 33 points in the third and fourth quarters, compared to Owosso’s 30.
Kearsley’s top scorers were seniors Jamarcus Elerson-Porter and Bryce Jenkins, each scoring 15 points.
Elerson-Porter said it took awhile for the Hornets to work together.
“The game went kind of rough in the beginning because we weren’t working well as a team,” Elerson-Porter said. “But we stepped up our defense in the second half.”
Seniors Chase Bailey and Anton Webster also chipped in eight points apiece.
Coach Paul Adas was “pleased” with how the seniors performed at the beginning and end of the game.
“The five starting seniors got the team out to a 18-8 first-quarter lead and finished the game with defensive stops and great execution on offense to pull out the four-point victory,” Adas said.
Adas expects his seniors to lead the team in the first district game.
“I look to the seniors to bring the same sense of urgency to the district playoff game on Wednesday.”
The Hornets will play the winner of the opening round game between Lapeer and Carman-Ainsworth on March 11 at Lapeer. Tip off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
