Bowling finishes fifth, first at tournaments

Over the weekend the girls bowling team competed at the Bangor John Glenn Holiday Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 16, at Monitor Lanes.

The team ended the invitational in fifth place.

The Hornets had a slow beginning in the first individual games with an 818 actual, but came back with games of 968 and 949 to move into first place.

With Baker games of 214 and 186, the Hornets eliminated Sandusky and moved into the final eight.

In the final eight, the team was defeated by Bay City Western 2-1.

Two girls, including seniors Barbara Hawes and Emma Boychuk, made the All-Tournament team.

Hawes led the Hornets with a 615-actual series, and Boychuk rolled a 599 series.

In the end, Davison placed first, Stevenson finished second, and Sturgis was third.

Bay City Western Baker’s Dozen

The Hornet’s next competition was a better turnout. The team took first place at Monitor Lanes on Sunday, Dec. 17.

The tournament included 13 Baker games against 13 different schools before moving on to match play.

In qualifying, the Hornets went 10-3 and finished as the top qualifier with a 13-game total pinfall of 2,448.

In the final six, the Hornets had to take on Bay City Western once again.

This time the Hornets took the win with a total pinfall of 338-328 and moved into the finals.

In the final. Kearsley beat Flushing 171-146.

Kearsley won the total pinfall in the match. This gave the Hornets their fifth win in the last six years in this tournament.
