Letter from the Editor:

After countless style quizzes, reading guides, and PowerPoint lectures, we finally got The Eclipse up and running with frequent updates on Nov. 19.

It was pretty hectic at first. Students were running in and out of the newspaper lab, searching for a quote, looking up a source’s class schedule, and taking photos of whatever they could to make their story look more interesting.

The editing process was shaky at best. Page editors were struggling to balance editing and writing, and the deadline schedule was still just an idea.

The Eclipse has been live for exactly one month now. What do we have to show for it?

For starters, we have published over 110 articles.

That is right, 110 articles.

Our reporters are more comfortable with the reporting system, and they are getting better at finding the right sources for their stories.

Several reporters have even tackled the challenge of in-depth articles.

The editing process is now running like clockwork. The copy editors are blazing through article after article, making sure that the page editors can jump right in and send the article off for its final review.

Articles previously stuck in the muck of editorial bureaucracy are now gliding through in a timely manner.

The thing that has most impressed me, however, is The Eclipse’s news coverage.

Our reporters have covered major topics that are relevant to both the high school and the community. These topics include:

  • The recent domestic terror threats made throughout the community via social media
  • The National Honor Society’s efforts to give back to the community
  • President Barack Obama’s proposed immigration plans
  • The fall of gas prices across the nation
  • National debt
  • The horrors of sex trafficking
  • Public school system nutritional reform

And the list keeps growing.

Thanks to the hard work of our reporters and editors, The Eclipse has made a successful return to the high school, and it looks like it will stay strong for the foreseeable future.

Good job, Eclipse staff.

Our first month was a success. Enjoy winter break; you earned it.
