Cheer knocks off Divine Child, wins first competition of the season

The cheer team took first place at the CCAM Invitational Saturday, Dec. 10.

Kearsley competed in Division 2-4 at the invitational hosted by Rochester Stoney Creek.

The cheer team earned a total of 697.12 points, beating Dearborn Divine Child with 693. 54 and Oscoda with a total of 535.5.

Beating Divine Child by a mere 3.58 points is huge for the Hornets since Divine Child  finished fourth at the state final last year.

Senior Kaitlyn Alburtus is happy the season is starting off on the right foot because this is her final season.

“Winning was a great way to start the season,” Alburtus said. ” I hope that we can all keep up the great work we have accomplished and achieve the goals we have set for ourselves and the team in general. ”

The team’s next competition is Jan. 11 at home.
