America shouldn’t be obsessed with the royal family

Nearly every day, you can turn on the news and find the royal family in the headlines.

The royal family consists of Queen Elizabeth II, her husband, King Philip, their children, and their grandchildren.

Their children are as follows: Charles, prince of Wales; Anne, princess royal; Andrew, duke of York;  and Edward, earl of Wessex.

Prince Charles is the most well known, being that he was married to the late princess Diana, who died in 1997.

Charles and Diana have two children William and Harold.

William is now married to Kate, who broke headlines again after giving birth to their third child.

Kate gave birth and walked out of a hospital in Britain looking lively with hair and makeup on.

She has  recently been seen as a role model for some women due to the fact that she left the hospital merely seven hours after giving birth.

You have to remember they are in another part of the world. Some things, such as the length of the hospital visit, are restricted and different than they are in the United States.

This again leads me to ask this question: How does what they do on a daily basis affect us?

I mean, why is it that every single time I turn on the news they’re front and center?

A story pulled off CNN’s website, written by Stephanie Elam, shows that the Americans view the royal family as a soap opera.

Quoting Elam, she states that “the royal family is seen as a massive soap opera, replete with love and loss, pomp and circumstance and British accents.”

As reported by the Huffington Post, former President Barack Obama told Prince Charles in a 2015 Oval Office meeting that Americans prefer the royal family over their own politicians.

Personally, I think that is terrifying.

Others think that the royal family can be seen as a fairy tale that always has a happy ending, so those who have their hearts set on the love stories are astonished that love stories do come true.

As for me, I think it’s gross and that the royal family will always be annoying.

There is no such thing as a fairy tale.

I think that people should start paying more attention to their own country and what is going on — not the royal family.
