Algebra doesn’t= come easy to all, but having a teacher who truly cares about his students makes a great difference. This year, we welcomed Adam Tooley to our math department! Tooley is from Holly, Michigan, where he coaches the Varsity football team alongside his dad.
“I have coached with my dad for the last 5 football seasons, and it has been an absolute joy,” Tooley said. “I remember going to his practices when I was a kid, and to be coaching with him now is a really cool thing.”
He is also a part of the staff for the varsity basketball team. Tooley spends his day at Kearsley teaching Algebra 1 and 2 to his students, then continues to help students become better athletes.
“My first semester was good,” Tooley said. “As a new teacher in the district, everyone, from administrators to facility staff to students, has been very welcoming and always willing to help. I really appreciate everyone’s kindness.”
Throughout his life, Mr. Tooley has had to use problem solving skills. This is shown through his journey to becoming a teacher.
“I’ve always thought about teaching throughout college, but for whatever reason, I could never get fully into it,” Tooley commented. “Over the past couple of years, when I got out of the real estate business, I did some substitute teaching in a few different districts, along with coaching. I enjoyed what the job offered, and the opportunity to help students grow or grow throughout their high school career was a very rewarding feeling.”
Tooley is very passionate about teaching his students to help build better relationships with them. He stays after school to help students understand the topics they learned in class by giving them extra support and time.
When asked what his favorite grade level was to teach, he said, “I enjoy teaching all grade levels, but I do enjoy teaching the older grade levels as they tend to hold longer and more thoughtful conversations on certain material.”
At the end of the day, Tooley is a great role model to his students in and outside of the classroom. He continues to push them to their greatest potential with lots of patience and dedication.
