Sophomore Sofia Sporman is a multi-sport athlete dedicated to her craft. In the fall she plays club soccer, is a part of Kearsley swim and dive, and runs cross country where she was a state qualifier this past fall. In the winter she is a middle school swim and dive helper while also playing soccer. In the spring she is a part of the varsity soccer team while also running track.

Born July 30th 2010, Sofia is short but rather feisty, and could definitely beat someone twice her size. Despite her tiny size she excels in everything she does. Her mom is Marci Sporman who coaches swim and dive, her dad Phil is a teacher, and her 2 sisters both graduated from Kearsley High School, and both are currently enrolled in college. Amelia, a freshman at Northern Michigan University, and Anna, a senior who plays soccer for Iowa William Penn.
As a multi-sport athlete Sofia is constantly busy, however she takes this challenge on with love for each of her sports.
“I love all of them and couldn’t just choose one,” Sporman said. “I don’t have a favorite, they are all special in their own way to the point I won’t give one up… Cross country is special because I had this hidden talent I didn’t know I could run and now I love it but I also love the cross country community. Swimming is special because I get to spend it with my mom and the whole team community with team dinners and everything. Soccer is special because it was my first love for a sport because I started so young. It’s muscle memory at this point.”
Despite her love for sports, doing so many takes a toll on her. Sporman explained her biggest challenge was “how exhausted I get from doing it all at once and to keep mentally going.”
Alongside her love for each sport she plays, Sporman also has a love for family. This love shapes the way she acts inside and outside of the pool, track, or field.
“The most memorable moment across all my sports was getting to do all my sports with my sister which she really helped me persevere, I wouldn’t have made it through all the busy schedules without her.”
Sporman adapted the lessons taught from her family to her performance, most notably in her sophomore year

where she made states for cross country.
“A meet I will never forget was cross country regionals when I made states and didn’t know, I was in the stands to cheer on some of my teammates, and then I heard my name that I made states, and everyone was so happy for me.” Sporman explained.
Being a student athlete isn’t all about sports, being a student comes first, and for Sporman, that is most definitely the case.
“I set up a routine with having 2 to 3 practices, going from one to one, then I come home and go straight to homework, then I rest.” Sofia explains her routine splitting time between both her practices and homework. “I spend a lot of time on homework when I get home from games or practice.”
Outside of classwork, Sporman is a big reader. She always has a book with and in her free time and she is almost always reading. She has read many books but there was one that stuck out.
“My favorite book is Binding 13,” Sporman explained. “I love reading because it takes me to another world where I don’t have to worry about anything and the thrill of turning the next page while reading has made me a better person.”
Most people usually don’t figure out where and what they want to do when the question of college comes up, however Sporman already knows what she wants to do.
“I want to go up to Northern Michigan University because I love the campus and the people and I want to go for culinary because I love Northern’s kitchen,” Sporman said.
Sporman is familiar with the campus due to her older sister being a current freshman.
Sofia Sporman is an excellent athlete with such passion that not only comes from within but also her friends, family, and teammates. She continues to dedicate her time to her sports and school to continue to strive for the better.
