Chapman caps off stellar career with 4th All-State award, Davis ends career as 2-time All-Stater

Two Hornets earned All-State honors at the MHSAA state wrestling finals March 5-7 at The Palace of Auburn Hills.

Kearsley advanced six wrestlers to the individual finals. When all of the matches were over, seniors James Davis and Jakob Chapman stood on their podiums, placing in the top eight of each of their weight classes.

Davis earned his second All-State honor in his career after placing fourth.

Davis won four matches and lost one, which put him in his final match, the third-fourth place match. Davis lost that match 3-2, and he ended up taking fourth.

He wrestled in the 171-pound division, which he placed third last year. Davis finished the season with a 56-7 record.

Chapman also brought home All-State honors, which is the fourth time he has done so. He was 3-2 in his first five matches in the 119-weight class, which set him up in the fifth-sixth place match.

He won that match 5-3 and finished fifth in the state. Chapman’s final victory gave him a 52-7 season record.

In the 135-pound division, junior Travis Wildfong (49-7) lost in the third round.

Sophomore Dylan Tarrence (46-10)  also lost in the third round. Tarrence competed in the 152-pound weight class.

In the 103-pound division, freshman Andy Ruhstorfer (51-9), was put out in the third round, wrestling at 103 pounds.

The sixth Hornet, sophomore Reese Harburn (39-19) was eliminated in the second round in the 189-pound division.
