The wrestling team took home its second regional title in school history by beating Brandon 37-36 on Feb. 18 at Linden.

In the first round, the Hornets defeated Maysville 40-27, which advanced them to the final round.

Brandon squeezed past Linden 29-27 to match up with Kearsley in the title match.

In order to get this win, many wrestlers had to make the right weight, either gaining or losing a couple of pounds to be put in the right bracket.

Kearsley’s last trip to the quarterfinals was in 2004 when the Hornets lost to Lowell 39-26. The Red Arrows eventually won the state championship that year.

The Hornets will compete in the Division 2 team quarterfinals on Feb. 27 at the Kellogg Arena in Battle Creek.

Kearsley’s opponent is yet to be determined. Seeding will take place on Feb. 22, and then the brackets will be set.

Currently ranked No. 7 in Division 2, the Hornets will probably face another highly-ranked team.

Of the eight teams remaining, six are ranked in the top 10.
