Sophomores say second year is better in high school

For sophomores, this year tends to be more comfortable and more enjoyable, simply because they did it all for the first time last year.

In this story you will meet five sophomores who share their experiences.

Stacia Tipton

For Stacia Tipton, this year has been beneficial for her self- happiness.

How has this year been compared to last year?

“This school year has been so much better,” Tipton said. “I’ve grown so much as a person. I’m also a lot happier with myself and the people I surround myself with.”

What would be one of your biggest challenges you have faced this year?

“Staying positive,” Tipton said. “It’s one of my priorities, but it’s sometimes really hard.”

What is something you would like to accomplish before you graduate? 

“I’d like to be in NHS,” Tipton said. “I’ll have to keep my grades up and focus more on what’s important — school.”

Sophomore Lillith Collins wants to be top 10 in her class.

Lillith Collins

For Lillith Collins, this year has been more likable.

How has this year been compared to last year?

“This year is slightly harder than last year,” Collins said. “But this year I have classes that I actually like.”

What would be one of your biggest challenges you have faced this year?

“AP World History would be my challenge just because it is a different class (than) I’ve ever taken before,” Collins said.

What is something you would like to accomplish before you graduate? 

“I would like to be in the top 10 of my class,” Collins said. “I will get there by working harder in my classes.”

Sophomore Hannah Simms wants to get more service hours.

For Hannah Simms, this year is better due to her experiences last year.

How has this year been compared to last year?

“This year has been 10 times better than last year,” Simms said. “I’m more aware with how things are ran that I was last year.”

What would be one of your biggest challenges you have faced this year?

“Studying for the PSAT, because even though it doesn’t technically count, I still wanted to try my best on it,” Simms said. “But finding time to study was very challenging.”

What is something you would like to accomplish before you graduate? 

“I want to have 100 or more service hours, so I can get the (graduation) cord,” Simms said. “I can volunteer more throughout my community to accomplish the goal of mine.”

Sophomore Delanie Schrieber wants to get a 4 on her AP tests

Delanie Schreiber wants current freshmen to know that it gets better.

How has this year been compared to last year?

“This year is a million times better. I wish I could tell all current freshmen that it gets better,” Schreiber said. “Use time management. Although school is still hard, it gets better.”

What would be one of your biggest challenges you have faced this year?

“Keeping my AP classes and extracurriculars balanced, as well as getting enough sleep,” Schreiber said.

What is something you would like to accomplish before you graduate? 

“I want to get a four on all of the AP tests by studying and having support from my friends,” Schreiber said.

Sophomore Daniel Fitzgerald wants to get high honors.

For Daniel Fitzgerald, this year has been a breeze.

How has this year been compared to last year?

“This year has been so much easier and has gone by quicker (than last year),” Fitzgerald said. ” Mostly because I know what to do. ”

What would be one of your biggest challenges you have faced this year?

“The work load is harder and takes more time, especially my AP World History (class),” Fitzgerald said.

What is something you would like to accomplish before you graduate? 

“Something I would like to do is to get high honors,” Fitzgerald said. “To do this, I need to study more and take easier classes.”
