There are five good Christmas carols to listen to this holiday season.

“All is calm, all is bright ….”

“Frosty the snowman ….”

“Dashing through the snow ….”

Those are the openers to some classic Christmas songs.

There are hundreds out there to choose from, but the real question is which are the best?

Well, here are my top five Christmas songs that are both catchy and do not get on my nerves.

“It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas”

This song should be the opening song to everyone’s holiday season, especially after the first snowfall when Christmas lights go up.

The song was originally written by Meredith Wilson in 1951, but has been redone many times.

I prefer the version by Johnny Mathis, but there are also versions by Michael Bublé and Bing Crosby, as well as a few others.

The song is about the beginning of the season, and getting into the holiday spirit.

“Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer”

I know it is cheesy, but this song reminds me of when I was younger and I would watch the Christmas special every year.

This song, written by Johnny Marks in 1949 and first sung by Gene Autry, is a fun, catchy tune you cannot go wrong with.

There are, of course, two versions: the original and the slightly edited version that includes lyrics such as, “Santa came to say (in his underwear).” Both versions are cute, although the edited one is funnier.

Either way, it is sure to brighten your day during the holiday season.

“Silent Night”

This Christmas classic, which is almost 200 year sold, can be dated back to 1816 when Joseph Mohr wrote the poem and 1818 when he and Franz Gruber sang it for the first time.

Mohr, an Austrian priest, and Gruber, a teacher, first sang the carol on Christmas Eve at St. Nicholas Church in the Austrian Empire.

This song is slow and beautiful and has stood the test of time. The music accompanies the lyrics beautifully.

Although this song has been done by multiple artists, my favorite version is sang by Sinead O’Connor.

“Jingle Bell Rock”

Bobby Helm first released this song in 1957, and it has been a hit for decades.

This song is upbeat and makes listeners think about having a good time during the holiday season.

This song can lift your spirits when you are down and help kick start the holiday season.

“All I Want for Christmas is You”

If you are not a fan of the classics, this modern hit is sure to get you into the Christmas spirit.

This song, by Mariah Carey, was first released in 1994, and you can be sure to hear it on pop stations and Christmas stations alike this season.

The song is fun, current, and showcases Carey’s amazing vocals.

If none of these songs sound good to your ears, then here are a few other great songs: “Jingle Bells,” “Frosty the Snowman,” “Santa Claus is Coming to Town,” “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” and “Do You Hear What I Hear?”
