Five Hornets made first team All-League in the Flint Metro League Championship on Wednesday, May 25.

The boys’ team took fourth place overall, ending the meet with 69 points. Sophomore Tre’Ron Griffin led the Hornets, scoring 14 3/4 points.

Griffin was one of five Hornets to earn All-League honors. He shared that honor with seniors Jonathan McKay and Matt Parkinson, as well as fellow sophomore Taveon Harris.

The only girl to make first team All-League was junior Ave’r McKay, who placed first in the girls’ 400 meter-dash with a time of 1:00.04.

Ave’r McKay’s 24 points led the girls to eighth place as they could only muster 39 1/2 points.

Jonathan McKay finished in first place multiple times. He led the boys’ 800-relay team to first place as well as winning the 400 in 51.07.

Griffin followed close behind in the 400, finishing in second at 51.48.

Harris did most of his damage on relay teams, leading the 1600 team to first place.

The team, consisting of Harris, Griffin, Jonathan McKay, and sophomore Dakotah Doman finished in 3:35.17.

Harris also ran on the 4×100 relay. That team was Harris, Doman, and seniors Mario Nichols and Deandre Webster. The boys finished in 45.26 which was good enough to earn them fifth place.

The season will end for Kearsley at the MHSAA Division 1 state final Saturday, June 4, at the Baldwin Middle School Athletic Complex in Hudsonville. Kearsley’s two qualifiers are Jonathan and Ave’r McKay, who each will run in the 400 dash.
