Hockey comes from behind to win pre-regional game

United hosted Grand Blanc in the MHSAA Division 1 pre-regional Tuesday, Feb. 27, winning 4-3 in overtime.

United’s record now stands at 13-12.

The team had dropped consecutive games to Alliance and Tri-Valley coming into the game against Grand Blanc, scoring only four goals in two matches.

United opened the scoring with a goal by Lochlan Hepburn, a Lake Fenton senior. He was assisted by Brandon sophomore Noah Bolton and Lake Fenton senior Alec Copeland.

Grand Blanc tied the game midway through the first period with a power-play goal.

Lake Fenton senior Drew Hobson gave United the lead with a goal 14:08 into the period. Colby Polutanovich, a Holly freshman, received an assist on the goal.

Grand Blanc tied up the game 2 minutes, 30 seconds later.

The second period lacked offense on both sides.

Grand Blanc took the lead halfway through the third period, but Polutanovich put the team on his shoulders, scoring an unassisted goal to force overtime.

Polutanovich then scored the game-winning goal in overtime, assisted by Kearsley senior Dru Sweers and Lake Fenton senior Aidan Flick.

United played great offense, launching 46 shots at the Grand Blanc goaltender.

They will visit LakeVille Thursday, March 1 at Dort Federal Event Center. The puck drops at 4:30 p.m.

LakeVille (16-10-1) knocked off Swartz Creek 7-5 to advance.
