Kearsley’s competitive cheer team took the runner-up honors at the Flushing Invitational on Jan. 10.

Earning 705.16 points, the Hornets were excited for their second-place finish in Division 2.

Sophomore Hailey Baltosser was excited about the team’s performance.

Baltosser said, “This is a really good start for our competitive season this year.”

Clio won the competition, and Swartz Creek trailed Kearsley, followed by Flushing and Linden, respectively.

Kearsley earned a score of 217.3 points in round one, 197.86 points for round two, and 290 points for round three.

It was the first time Kearsley received over 700 hundred points at a competition this early in the season.

This was the second competition of the year.

Baltosser said the team has had to overcome losing a great deal of experience due to graduation.

“At the end of last year, we lost 12 seniors, and everyone was worried about it,” Baltosser said. “But our new team has really stepped up to the plate and put in their all.”
