Kearsley’s and Owosso’s athletics departments have joined together to hold a community event called the K-O Clash.

This year, the sporting event will be held Friday, April 22, at Owosso High School’s spring athletics facilities. Next year the competition will be at Kearsley.

Mr. Paul Gaudard, athletics director, believes this is a unique opportunity for spring athletes.

“It should be a fun event,” Gaudard said. ” I hope that it will bring excitement to the spring season.”

All spring sports from each school will be competing against each other for this day.

This includes all varsity and junior varsity sports: boys’ and girls’ track, softball, baseball, golf, soccer, and tennis.

Kearsley athletes will be bused to Owosso at the conclusion of the school day.

Junior Alexis Schwartz, track athlete, sees this as a new challenge.

“It sounds fun,” Schwartz said. ” It would be a nice tradition to start.”

For every individual sport or match that  is won, the team will be awarded a point. There are 12 possible points.

At the end of the day, the winning school will be awarded a traveling trophy.

In the case of a tie, a name will be drawn to determine the winner.

This event should initiate friendly competition and will be something that will be looked forward to next year.

Junior softball player Aubrey Scott feels that this will initiate a new rivalry.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to build a rivalry,” Scott said. “It should be exciting.”

Admission to all games will be free, and the Owosso boosters will be selling food.

This should be a great opportunity to join together as two communities.

In addition, the event is planned to be held annually.
