April 1 is not just April Fools’ Day, but an important date for seniors.

Seniors must have their service learning hours completed and turned in.

Getting these hours is a required task and, without it, you cannot graduate.

The hours are used toward the senior project, which is a required assignment for all seniors.

Seniors must have a minimum of six documented hours in order for the service learning task to be fulfilled.

Also the service learning hours cannot be accomplished for friends, family members, or a for-profit business.

If seniors already did the minimum of six hours prior to school starting, there is no need to worry. Seniors can still get credit for their service learning hours. All they need is to fill out the form and have  the person they performed the service for sign it.

However, if seniors still need their six hours, they can visit Mrs. Colleen Grathoff, service learning coordinator, in the career center for assistance on places to volunteer.

“Seniors should not wait until the last minute to complete their service hours,” Grathoff said. “They should also make sure it meets the guidelines.”

Three websites Grathoff urges students to look at for volunteering opportunities are www.volunteerspot.org and www.handsongenesee.org.

Seniors can pick up service learning forms from their English teachers.
