Is the Internet killing TV?

Television has been entertaining people for a very long time. However, the World Wide Web has really taken over, especially during the last several years.

People have created really interesting products for the Internet. If you are a teen in the 21st century, you most likely live and breath the Net.

But if you are around 35 or older, you may feel as if the world is taking off without you.

Even though most people still sit down to watch television, they are most likely also on their smartphone or other similar device.

Thanks to Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, Xfinity, and YouTube, we basically have any TV show that we want to watch in a few minutes.

You even can get caught up if you miss your favorite TV show that week.

When people watch television today, it is amazing how many commercials there are. It seems that about every five to 10 minutes a series of commercials come on trying to sell some sort of  product.

Karlee Griffin, sophomore, said the Net is killing television.

“I do have Netflix and YouTube but only use Netflix about twice a month,” Griffin said. “However, I watch way more YouTube than I watch TV.”

I believe that television has a few more years left, but the Net will soon hit it with a strong right hook and knock it out.

For people like Griffin, watching their favorite TV show online reduces watching advertisements to only one commercial in the beginning.

However, not everyone thinks the paid subscriptions are for them.

Elise Pariseau, sophomore, said she watches television more than she uses the Net.

“No, I do not use Netflix because I do not think it is worth the money to just watch TV shows when you can watch it on TV for the relatively same price,” Pariseau said.

For me, I believe that television has a few more years left, but the Net will soon hit it with a strong right hook and knock it out.
