Senior Santino Guerra has been named one of 24 male finalists from Class A for the MHSAA Student-Athlete Award scholarship.

Guerra is the only student from Kearsley that qualified for the award.

According to Mr. Paul Gaudard, athletics director, this is one of the most sought after and competitive scholarships that Kearsley students apply for.

Seven winners from the group will be awarded $1,000 from Farm Bureau Insurance and will be honored at halftime of the Class C Boys’ Basketball Finals.

I think my odds of winning are questionable because there are a lot of good candidates for the award.

Names of winners will be released to the public and media through the MHSAA website throughout February.

Guerra said everyone has a good chance of winning the award.

“I think my odds of winning are questionable because there are a lot of good candidates for the award,” Guerra said.

There are four eligibility requirements for this award: the student must be enrolled and participating in athletics at an MHSAA member school, the student must be a senior graduating in the 2015-2016 school year, the student must have won a varsity letter in a sport before their senior year, and students must obtain a minimum cumulative GPA of at least 3.5.
