Letter from the Editor:

On Nov. 19, 2014, former editor in chief Aaron Haack’s story Kearsley’s student newspaper is back in (digital) business was published, marking the beginning of The Eclipse’s online news site.

At the time, things were definitely hectic. Every staff member was new, and so was the concept of a news website, so the first few months of The Eclipse were basically a shot into the dark in hopes of a rewarding outcome.

The editing process needed to be straightened out, editors were still getting the hang of the stylebook, and reporters were scrambling to get stories together.

Things slowly started to come together in late December when reporters became used to writing and could come up with a lot of their own ideas.

It is crazy to think that a year has passed since then.

In one year, The Eclipse published 744 stories.

That’s right — 744 stories.

That is about 83 stories a month over the span of the 2014-15 school year and the beginning of this school year.

That averages out to at least two stories a day.

Reporters have been working nonstop to make that happen.

Editors have been spending hours upon hours fixing the stories to make them come out right.

The Eclipse adviser, Mr. Darrick J. Puffer, has been dedicating his life to making sure the site is up and running flawlessly.

Now in its second year, I am beyond proud of how far The Eclipse has come.

This year began with veterans getting right back to writing, while the rookies completed assignments to earn their journalist wings.

Once the rookies were ready to write, the class fell into its normal routine. Editors were then chosen and the rest followed suit.

All in all, I am proud with how the class turned out.

I am proud of the veterans who stuck it out and are serving as mentors for the rookies.

I am proud of the rookies for their unwavering interest in journalism, along with their desire to become the best reporters they can be.

Watching (and reading) how staff members have grown as both people and writers is the best part of it all.

I am excited to see how the rookies will develop as writers, and I cannot wait to see where The Eclipse will be at the end of the year.

Thanks to the hard work of the staff, The Eclipse has been able to make its comeback and bring KHS the news it needs to hear.

Good job everyone, and I hope that throughout the rest of the school year we will just keep getting better.

Keep working hard.
