The Eclipse has four badges from School Newspapers Online. The Site Page Excellence and Continuous Coverage badges were awarded to the news site April 14.

The Eclipse was awarded two new badges April 14 from School Newspapers Online.

This brings the total number of awards for The Eclipse to four.

The first-year student news site recently received Story Page Excellence and Continuous Coverage badges.

The Eclipse previously earned badges in Site Excellence and Excellence in Writing.

Senior Aaron Haack, editor in chief of The Eclipse, has worked hard to get these awards for the newspaper.

“We’ve put in a lot of effort to make sure we fit the badge criteria, and here we are, already setting the precedent for newspapers across the state,” Haack said.

The Eclipse is the only student newspaper in the state, and one of 18 in the country, to have received the Continuous Coverage badge to date this year.

School Newspapers Online is an online publishing company in Minnesota that hosts almost 1,700 high school news sites across the country. It offers site reviews for high school journalism programs and awards badges to news sites that excel.

The Continuous Coverage badge requires sites to have regular updates on news stories in the community.

It was difficult to fulfill the criteria, but we ended up succeeding. I’m proud of the reporters and editors who helped make this happen.

— Aaron Haack, editor in chief

The Story Page Excellence badge has been awarded to 27 other schools in the country, and only one other school in Michigan.

The Story Page Excellence badge requires eight in-depth stories with special formatting and criteria.

Haack said, “It was difficult to fulfill the criteria, but we ended up succeeding. I’m proud of the reporters and editors who helped make this happen.”
