Girls basketball defeated Swartz Creek 61-42 Friday, Feb. 7.

Girls basketball won 61-43 during a home game against Swartz Creek Friday, Feb. 7.

Senior JaKeira Wash led the team with 20 points, three assists, and six steals.

Junior Saniaa Walker brought in 19 points, four rebounds, and six steals.

Senior Kamryn Palka pitched in with six points and seven rebounds.

Senior Markayla Shannon had seven points and five rebounds.

Senior Asia Donald scored four points and brought in 12 rebounds.

Donald believes the game went well for the team.

“I think that the game went extremely well, perhaps better than expected,” Donald said. “As a team we worked on our zone defense and pacing our offense, which was good.

“These have been good focal points in practice for a few weeks so it was good to see us showcase them.”

Donald is looking forward to the rest of the season.

“For the rest of the season, I believe we will accomplish all of our goals that we as a team have set and I look forward to it,” Donald said.

The Hornets are now 11-4 overall and 10-1 in the Metro League.

The team will host Owosso Tuesday, Feb. 11.
