The girls basketball team links up for the national anthem before a 52-44 victory over Holly Friday, Jan. 17.

Girls basketball came out on top of Metro League foe Holly in a 52-44 victory Friday, Jan. 17.

Senior Sydney Walker took charge with a well-rounded game, earning 12 points, eight rebounds, and four steals.

Senior Kamryn Palka led the Hornets in scoring with 17 points. She also took in five rebounds.

Junior Saniaa Walker brought in 12 points and four steals.

Senior JaKeira Wash pitched in with five points, six rebounds, and four steals.

Sydney believes the team is strongest in their defense and rallying when they are down.

“Our team is very strong at defending in the clutch and making big plays when needed,” Sydney said.

As Holly gained a third-quarter lead, the Hornets had to buzz together to bridle the Bronchos.

“A turning point in the game was definitely the third quarter because Holly started to come back,” Sydney said. “We weren’t playing as hard and they could tell, but we ultimately came back to win.”

The Hornets are 7-3 overall and 6-0 in the Metro League. The Hornets sit atop the Metro League’s striped division. They will host Linden Friday, Jan. 24.
