The girls track and field team beat Clio 69-58 but lost to Owosso 88-47 in a double-dual meet with freshman Sanaii Walker leading the Hornets with four first-place finishes.

The three teams went head-to-head at Owosso on Monday, April 30.

In the 100-meter dash, Walker placed first in 13.33 seconds.

Walker also came in first in the 200 dash with a time of 28.47.

In the 400 dash, Walker achieved first place with a 1:00.77 and set a personal record for herself. In addition, senior Madison Jordan placed third with 1:07.26 and set a season record with her time.

Finally, Walker’s fourth victory came as part of the 1600-relay team (Jordan, Walker, senior Katie Lewis, and junior Stacia Tipton) who took first with a time of 4:39.13.

Lewis also scored in the 100 hurdles, placing third with a 22.07, setting a personal record.

In the shot put, junior Mackenzie Ramey placed first with a toss of 37 feet, 8 inches.

Junior Mary Wheeler came in first in the discus with a throw of 89-11, while Ramey placed third, throwing an 86-08.

Wheeler believes the Hornets had a good meet.

“I think we did pretty well yesterday,” Wheeler said.” We only beat Clio, but I think it was a good day.”

She believes working hard will make the team better as the season continues.

“I think we can improve by continuing to put in hard work,” Wheeler said.

Sophomore Asia Donald tied for third place in the pole vault at 6-00.

The Hornets are now 1-3 in the league.
