Freshman Sanaii Walker,  junior Mackenzie Ramey, and junior Mary Wheeler all won an event at home in the girls track double-dual meet Wednesday, April 25.

Unfortunately, Kearsley lost both meets. In the Brandon-Kearsley meet, Brandon won 74-58. In the Flushing-Kearsley meet, Flushing won 107-30.

Walker took first in the 200-meter in 27.27 seconds, setting a personal record.

In the shot put, Ramey placed first, throwing 36 feet, 6 1/2 inches.

Wheeler took first in the discus with a toss of 96-05.

Scoring in two other events, Walker took second in the 100 dash, sprinting a personal record in 13.05. She also placed second in the 400 dash, running it in a 1:04.53, which was also a personal best.

Senior Madison Jordan took third in the 400 dash. Her time was 1:10.29 and it set a season record for her.

In the high jump, sophomore Jakeria Wash came in third with personal record jump of 4-02.

Wheeler believes the team did not do as well as it could have, but she said the Hornets tried.

“I think we didn’t do our best, as we lost both meets,” Wheeler said. ” I think we easily could have beat them if everyone gave their all.”

She believes the team has room for improvement.

“I think we need more practice as a team to improve our performance,” Wheeler said. “We also need better team attendance at our practices.”
