Five seniors express their feelings on their final year of high school

Every year students look forward to the new school year, not because of classes but because of their new ranking.

From freshmen to seniors, everyone is excited about moving up in the world.

Everyone is one year closer to graduation, especially the seniors.

Five seniors share how they feel about their senior year.

Kaitlyn Nellet

Kaitlyn Nellett looks forward to her final year of high school.

How do you feel about starting your last year of high school?

“I’m excited for all of the things that I’m going to be doing for the last time, like going to homecoming and football games,” Nellett said.

How has your senior year been so far?

“So far it’s been really fun and not too stressful,” Nellet said.

Who is your favorite underclassman? Why? How did you meet him?

“Niccos Patrick,” Nellett said, “He’s funny and very sweet. I met him on the bus sophomore year.”

Elise Pariseau

How do you feel about starting your last year of high school?

“I’m very excited to see what this year holds,” Pariseau said. “It’s very sad experiencing all of the ‘lasts’ that come with this year.”

How has your senior year been so far?

“It has been busy, but actually good. There are lots of things on my plate for the year, but I’m excited to tackle them all,” Pariseau said.

Who is your favorite underclassman? Why? How did you meet her?

“My favorite underclassman would be Emma Bishoff,” Pariseau said. “We met through golf and Student Council. She’s my favorite because she is always there for me and is a great person.”

Jawan Peat

How do you feel about starting your last year of high school?

“I feel really alive,” Peat said. “I feel like I’m ready for any life changes.”

How has your senior year been so far?

“My senior year has been pretty easy and good so far,” Peat said.

Who is your favorite underclassman? Why? How did you meet him?

“I have to say Joe Weakland,” Peat said. “He is the only underclassman that I’m close with.”

Taylor Rathburn

How do you feel about starting your last year of high school?

“I have dreamed of being a senior ever since freshman year. But now it’s here. It’s kind of sad,” Rathburn said.

How has your senior year been so far?

“It’s been really good,” Rathburn said. “It’s such an easy and exciting year.”

Who is your favorite underclassman? Why? How did you meet her?

“My favorite underclassman is Heather McNeill,” Rathburn said. “She is the most intelligent and motivated person I know. Ever since Heather was born I’ve treated her like a sister. Our moms met in Kearsley when they were in high school.”

Hannah VanOoteghem

How do you feel about starting your last year of high school?

“I don’t really know how to feel,” VanOoteghem said. “Yeah, I’m excited about almost being done with school, but I’m not excited about leaving my friends and school activities.”

How has your senior year been so far?

“So far, it’s been very stressful,” VanOoteghem said. “I took four AP classes and I get a ton of homework every day. Add that to work after school and it’s really hard on me. I stay up late almost every night, and it is mentally draining. A lot of people took easy classes for an easy senior year. I, however, wanted to challenge myself.”

Who is your favorite underclassman? Why? How did you meet him or her?

“I don’t really know any underclassmen or talk or hang out with them,” VanOoteghem said.
