Girls basketball won 59-48 against Hamady High School Friday, Dec. 6, during a non-conference game.

Senior Sydney Walker scored 29 points and made eight rebounds.

“It felt good,” Walker said. “It showed others what Kearsley’s about this year.”

Walker credits her success to her teammates.

“I build off of the energy of my team,” Walker said, “so if they’re energized, I keep going to the hoop.”

Jakeira Wash, senior, added 11 points and seven assists.

Wash believes that the third quarter was a turning point in the game.

“We were starting to get down on ourselves (before halftime) because they were up and we weren’t thinking and taking our time,” Wash said. “After halftime we settled down and turned the game around for the better.”

Senior Markayla Shannon brought in nine points and three steals.

Junior Saniaa Walker dropped two points, seven assists, six steals, and five rebounds.

The Hornets are now 1-1 overall. They will play their first Metro League game Friday, Dec. 13, at Flushing.
