The Hornets took eighth place in the Metro League’s pre-season tournament Monday, April 15.

The golf team competed at the Pre-Season Metro League Tournament hosted by Owosso at Fenton Farms on Monday, April 15.

Overall, the Hornets carded a combined score of 389, earning them eighth place out of 12 teams.

Fenton finished first with a score of 336, Swartz Creek took second with a 357, and Holly earned third with a score of 366.

Senior Tyler Gronauer led the Hornets with 89 strokes, while senior Logan Loyer swung a 96.

Gronauer said he was initially concerned about the weather.

“We arrived to a snow-covered course,” Gronauer said. “Coaches weren’t sure what the next plan of action was. After some discussion, they decided to delay until 11 (a.m.). The snow cleared and it ended up being a very good day.”

Gronauer was proud of his performance and is expecting a successful season.

“I set a new personal best score for 18 at 89,” Gronauer said. “I know that we have a shot in the league this year, so I want to bring my A-game as much as possible.”

The Hornets will take on Fenton at the Flint Elks Club in Grand Blanc on Thursday, April 18.
