The girls basketball team advanced to its MHSAA district final after defeating Lapeer 51-39 on its home court in a Division 1 district semifinal Wednesday, March 6.
The Hornets were behind by five points in the first half but made a comeback during the third quarter to win the game.
They were led by senior Mackenzie Ramey with 25 points, nine rebounds, and four steals.
Ramey is proud of the way the team was able to come back during the second half.
“I feel like we really put on a show,” Ramey said. “We were down at halftime, but that didn’t stop us. We came back on it.”
Zaria Mitchner, senior, also added 13 points, five assists, and five steals.
Kearsley will face Carman-Ainsworth on Friday, March 8, for the district championship at Lapeer. Tip off is at 7 p.m.
Ramey said she expects the team to play its best at the upcoming game.
“(Our goals are) to play hard, to keep fighting, to give it our all, and to not give up because it’s win or go home,” Ramey said.
