Braziel leads harriers at last two meets

Kearsley’s cross country runners, though numbering too few to form a team, ran in two events this past week: the Kayla O’Mara Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 13,  and the MHSAA Division 2 regional meet on Wednesday, Oct. 17.

At Goodrich Middle School, the runners competed in the Kayla O’Mara Invitational.

The top three 5,000-meter runners for the boys were junior Raydoffa Braziel with a time of 17:46, sophomore Bailey Palmer with a time of 19:18,  and junior Justice Sutcliffe with a time of 19:31.

Braziel placed 16th, Palmer placed 42nd, and Sutcliffe placed 44th.

For the girls, sophomore Lexa Jones finished with a time of 25:43, good for 48th place.

The group then ran at the Flint Metro league cross country championships at Springfield Oaks County Park in Holly, with Braziel leading the team with a 18:06 finish, earning 27th place.

Palmer finished with a time of 19:07, taking 39th place.

Sutcliffe, finishing in 19:47, rounded off the boys at 44th place.

In the girls race, Jones was the sole runner for the Hornets.

Jones placed 43rd and ran a 25:08.

The runners will compete next on Saturday, Oct. 27, in an MHSAA regional competition at Delta College.
