The swim team lost its league opener to Swartz Creek/Flushing.

Swartz Creek/Flushing took a commanding victory over the swimming and diving team on Tuesday, Sept. 25, a meet in which the hosting Hornets were beat 126-59 in their Metro League debut.

While not much went well for the Hornets, Coach Marci Sporman felt the team’s effort was evident.

“We lost to Swartz Creek/Flushing, but the girls worked really hard and had some great races,” Sporman said. “I am very proud of how hard they worked.”

Junior Autumn Sears feels the team needs more communication.

“We can definitely work harder to support each other,” Sears said. “We also need to recruit more members.”

The team will host Brandon on Thursday, Sept. 27.

The Blackhawks lost their opening meet 150-34 against Fenton.

Some team members, including Sears, have high hopes that, based on team size and past performances, the Hornets can get their first victory.

“We beat them at counties (the Genesee County swim meet), so I feel pretty good about it,” Sears said. “We have a comparable team size.”
