Juniors Krista Staley and Mariana Arambula are close friends who enjoy spending time and spreading positive attitudes together.

Positivity in the 21st century is rare, especially in high schools.

Teenagers struggle with their self-image as they grow into their bodies, and it is easy for them to hurt each others feelings. Many people may be going through more than meets the eye.

On Friday, May 4, and Monday, May 7, juniors Krista Staley and Mariana Arambula recognized this and decided to tell people around the school they are beautiful.

Staley and Arambula recorded themselves walking around KHS asking students and teachers if they could be photographed to capture their beauty.

They recognized the beauty of people who they felt did not get enough recognition.

Staley said she and Arambula chose “good people.” She also said they wanted to focus on people’s inner beauty, not solely their outward beauty.

Their video was originally uploaded on Facebook and made it to YouTube where it currently has over 350 views.

Staley and Arambula were inspired by similar videos posted on Facebook.

They decided to spread their positivity around KHS because they felt there wasn’t enough kindness circulating throughout the halls. They were also hoping to make people feel better about themselves.

Staley and Arambula hope that people will see their video and notice how much a compliment can make someone’s day.

“One mean comment can replay in their brain a thousand times, just like one nice comment can,” Staley said.

Arambula said people need to have empathy for others because everyone has something different going on in their lives.

“Seeing people around the hallways by themselves regularly brings many thoughts,” Arambula said, “like what if they’re going through something? What if they don’t really have anyone to talk to or any friends? It’s just the things like that that make you think.”

Staley and Arambula hope to do something like this again in the future because it made themselves and others feel good.
