Quiz bowl wins two, loses one

The quiz bowl team played its second match of the season on Wednesday, Feb. 7, beating Linden and Owosso, while losing to Oxford.

The team beat out Linden in a close 430-375 match, taking an early lead and countering a late-game comeback.

Sophomores Chris Moyer, Cameron Gohs, and Connor Earegood led the team in points, while sophomore Grant Sterling contributed key points for the win.

The team continued its streak of wins against a familiar Owosso team, dominating a 415-130 match. Kearsley had beaten the Trojans on WKAR’s “QuizBusters” earlier in the year.

Junior Tyler Jamison came alive in the match, scoring four critical questions for the team.

The streak ended against Oxford, though, who capitalized early and jumped out to a 140-point lead. The Hornets came within 30 points, but fell short 310-270.

The team is now 4-1, tied for first in the league.

Moyer, who is captain of the quiz bowl team, hopes the team can improve to beat Oxford in the future.

“We need to focus more in practice,” Moyer said.

The team will compete against Brandon, Flushing, and Lapeer on Wednesday, Feb. 14.
