Five students share what they will miss most about KHS

Graduation is less than a month away.

Seniors are preparing to take their exams (or exempt them if they are lucky) and walk across the stage at The Whiting on June 4.

While every senior is excited to graduate and start their next journey in life, there will be things the graduating students will miss.

In this story, five seniors share three things they will miss most about high school.

Most-missed class

Claire Zuwala is deeply committed to choir, especially A Capella.

“I will miss A Capella the most,” Zuwala said. “I love the people in A-Cap and love to sing. I love having A-Cap because it is kind of like a break in the school day to do something I love — sing.”

Most-missed teacher

Mrs. Renee Kotzian, choir director, is the teacher Zuwala will miss most when she graduates.

“I will definitely miss Mrs. Kotzian the most,” Zuwala said. “She is a really good influence and she is more than a teacher to a lot of kids. She is a mentor and role model. Her class always feels very welcoming. We are a family in her class.”

Most-missed thing in general

Zuwala thought about this for a moment, as it was a hard question.

“I will miss knowing everyone. I am going away for college and it will be different not being able to know everyone you see,” Zuwala said. “Here, I can wave to everyone in the hall because we all know each other.”

Zuwala is on the swim team, a member of the choir, a member of the National Honor Society, and will be graduating with high honors.

Most-missed class

Adam Chuchvara did not hesitate when asked what class he will miss most, though many students would disagree.

“Math,” Chuchvara said. “I have always liked the history behind math. I enjoy learning how to solve different equations and math makes you think.”

Most-missed teacher

Like his most-missed class, Chuchvara will miss Mr. Mark Winkler, math teacher, the most.

“Mr. Winkler, of course,” Chuchvara said. ” He is very inspirational as a teacher. He motivated me to want to be a teacher, though no longer want to be one. I love the fact that he gets along with every student and will go out of his way to help students individually.”

As Chuchvara remembered Winkler as his favorite teacher, he added, “Mr. Winkler is just an all-around great guy. I will miss him very much.”

Most-missed thing in general

“The people. Definitely everyone at KHS,” Chuchvara said. “I will miss seeing all of the teachers and students everyday. It will be definitely different not walking down the halls, eating lunch with my friends, and looking forward to football games and dances.”

Chuchvara is a member of the choir, wrestles with the Michigan Wrestling Organization, and is eagerly awaiting graduation.

Most-missed class

When asked what class she will miss most after graduation, Kelsie Rose smiled.

“I will miss Spanish class,” Rose said. “I have a lot of friends in class and we always have a good time together. I like the cupcakes we get on Fridays, and I always enjoy Foreign Language Variety Night.”

Most-missed teacher

“Señorita Pence, who teaches Spanish,” Rose said. “We have known each other for five years. She came to Spain with us (other classmates) and we have grown close. She feels more like a friend than a teacher.”

Most-missed thing in general

“Seeing my friends everyday and playing tennis,” Rose said. “We will all be going our separate ways after graduation and will not be able to see each other often. My friends and I are enjoying and treasuring our last month of high school together.”

Rose plays varsity tennis, is a member NHS, and will be graduating with high honors.

Most-missed class

Frasher thought about this one and was a bit sarcastic while answering.

“I am not going to miss any class,” Frasher said, laughing. “I’m just kidding. I think I will miss HAP (Human Anatomy and Physiology) the most. Mrs. Cousins is extremely intelligent and has taught us a lot. Plus, she tells the craziest stories, so I will miss that.”

Most-missed teacher

“Mrs. Graham,” Frasher said without hesitating. “She has given me great life advice and is fun to talk to. She can always make my day better. She is all around a good teacher and friend.”

Most-missed thing in general

Frasher is big into school spirit. He even knows the entire fight song choreography that the cheerleaders dance to.

“I will miss going to football games, dances, spirit week, and every thing else that has school spirit,” Frasher said. “I will miss dancing the fight song at every sporting event. I love to paint my face with our school colors and be with all of my friends while supporting our school.”

Frasher plays varsity tennis, is a member of NHS and Student Council, and will be graduating with high honors.

Most-missed class

“Human Anatomy,” O’Leary said. “I really enjoy everyone in the class and I have learned a lot from it. Mrs. Cousins is very smart and she was a fun teacher. I liked learning about the body.”

Most-missed teacher

O’Leary had trouble deciding what teacher she will miss most.

She said she could not decide between Mrs. Colene Wilcox and Mr. Jared Rawls.

“Mrs. Wilcox is my favorite teacher, and I just love Mr. Rawls. They both feel like friends to me,” O’Leary said. “Mrs. Wilcox is sweet and really cares for her students. Mr. Rawls is very motivational and supportive.”

Most-missed thing in general

“Dances and homecoming week, definitely,” O’Leary said. ” I love dressing up for the dances, especially senior prom. I liked how we had different themes for homecoming weeks. I enjoyed seeing everyone having school spirit and being with everyone. It is something I definitely will miss about high school.”

O’Leary was captain of the 2015 – 2016 varsity dance team and will graduate with honors.
