Homebodies can still have fun during spring break

There are many lucky people who will be out of state for spring break, enjoying warm weather, beaches, and cruises — what terrible people.

I am not so lucky. I will be stuck at home, working my life away at my part-time job, but I enjoy money, so it works out, right?

If you do not have any plans for spring break, here are five things that you can do at home.

1. Go see a movie

With all of your free time, go and catch a movie with your friends, significant other, or parents.

It is good bonding time and is fairly inexpensive.

I recommend you go and see a comedy to lighten your spirits because when you see all of the Instagram posts of your friends in Florida, you will probably cry.

2. Get outside (unless Michigan weather ruins the day)

Michiganders know all too well about how bipolar the weather can be.

If there is no snow, rain storms, or a tornado (fingers crossed), I recommend getting outside.

If you need to waste time and are tired of seeing all of your friends at the beach, take your mind off things by taking a walk.

The Flushing Nature Park is great for long walks and beautiful scenery, and it is not very far away. Best of all, it is free.

3. Go shopping

Shopping is a girl’s best friend. Guy’s like it too, of course.

The best places to shop, and can feel like a little vacation, are the Great Lakes Crossing Outlets and the Birch Run Outlets.

Shopping is stress-free and a fun way to spend the day.

Your friends and yourself can get together, carpool, and have a fun day together.

You do not need a lot of money to shop. Just bring money to eat and have fun.

However, if you do have some money to burn, enjoy the day at your favorite stores with friends.

4. Have a sleep-over

Seeing your friends on their cruises and beaches will seriously depress you. (I am already depressed and Spring Break has not even started, can you tell?)

So, to fix that problem, have a sleepover with a bunch of friends who are also stuck at home.

Hanging out and having fun will take your mind off of school resuming soon.

Eat junk food, turn up the music, stay up all night, and enjoy being on break.

Sleepovers are pretty cheap. Have each friend bring something to drink and to snack on, as well as a few bucks to order pizza, and you will be set for the night.

5. Read a new book

There are plenty of genres if you do not know where to start.

There are classics, science fiction, fantasy, history, horror, tragedy, and many other genres.

If you prefer a good romance, pick up a Nicholas Sparks novel. I recommend “A Walk to Remember” or “The Notebook.”

Reading is a good way to spend time alone and to get peace of mind.

So if you are stuck at home for spring break and need something to do, pick one of these five things, have fun and enjoy the break from school.
