The cheer team snatched second place at its MHSAA district tournament Saturday, Feb. 20, hosted by Fenton.

The top four teams advanced to the regional tournament.

Bay City Central took the victory, while Brandon placed third. The fourth team to move on was Clio.

The team earned 216.5 points for round one, 207.94 points for round two, and 311.4 points for round three.

With a total score of 735.84 points, the girls had a 16.44 point lead over Brandon and were only 7.2 points away from tying for first place with Bay City Central.

All of the cheerleaders, including senior Bethanie Freeman, were excited about being the runner-up.

“A lot of us cried out of excitement when we figured out that we took second place,” Freeman said. “This is the first time all season we have beaten Brandon, which it is pretty awesome that we finally were able to.”

The Hornets’ next competition is the regional on Saturday, Feb. 27, hosted by Allen Park.
