Embrace low-cost date, gift ideas this Valentine’s Day

To some people, Valentine’s Day is just another ordinary day, while others spend it with friends eating ice cream and watching sappy romance movies.

For those who are in a relationship or are dating, Valentine’s Day is filled with gifts and time spent with their significant other.

This day can be filled with fun, but it can also be stressful.

The perfect date can be hard to plan, and it may take some searching to find the perfect gift.

Between dinner and gifts, this day of love can also get expensive.

But there are ways to cut down on costs. There are many gifts and date ideas that can be reasonable.

Junior Brieanna Boven is not picky when it comes to Valentine’s Day.

“I am happy with whatever I get and wherever I go on Valentine’s Day,” Boven said. “Personally, I believe that the most important thing is just showing the other person that you care.”

One great date idea is to just stay home; cook a homemade meal with romantic music and spend quality time together.

After dinner, put on a movie or just talk about different topics over dessert.

Even though the date is fairly cheap, it is meaningful.

Another reasonable date idea would be to pack a picnic and go somewhere outdoors that has a romantic feel.

The only thing a person would have to buy for this date would be the lunch supplies and gas to get there if they drive.

This may not be the best idea on a rainy or cold day, but if the sun is shining, this date is a fun one to consider.

If couples want to do something a little more formal, they should just go out on a classic dinner and movie date.

Although a 5-star restaurant would be great, it is not necessary, even on Valentine’s Day.

Just going to a pizza parlor can be made fun.

Afterward, going out to a movie would be a great way to wrap up the night with your valentine.

If you want to go out, but not for dinner and a movie, visiting downtown Frankenmuth is an idea to keep in mind.

Going to all of the stores and sampling chocolates from the different local shops can be entertaining and inexpensive.

Not to mention, there are many restaurants around for couples to just stop and split an appetizer.

From walking in the plaza to taking a carriage ride around town, there are a lot of things to do in the same general location.

Something sweet for couples to do on Valentine’s Day is to replicate their first date.

If a couple went ice skating and then ordered Chinese food, why not do that again just like the first time?

It is meaningful, and depending on what your first date was, can be reasonable.

Now, what about possible gift ideas?

Couples could always buy each other the classic chocolates and card combination and even throw flowers in the mix.

This gift bundle is simple and does the job of showing significant others that their boyfriend or girlfriend cares.

The perfect gift that I would get someone would be some red roses, chocolates, and something else that they are into, like perfume or a pair of shoes.

Even getting them a teddy bear would be a great alternative to the flowers or chocolates.

Junior Levi Leyer believes these classic gifts are the best ones to buy for that “special someone.”

“The perfect gift that I would get someone would be some red roses, chocolates, and something else that they are into, like perfume or a pair of shoes,” Leyer said.

But to be creative this Valentine’s Day, you could decorate a mason jar with hearts and fill it with little notes that list the reasons on why you care about your significant other.

This idea may take some time to make, but the look on your partner’s face when they see it will be priceless, not to mention it is at a reasonable cost to make.

For something that does not take much time to write, just fill the jar with your partner’s favorite type of candy.

Something else that is meaningful, yet easy and virtually costless, is a poster board filled with pictures of you with your valentine.

Glue on photographs from dances, dates, and even from times when you and your partner were just being plain out silly.

This gift idea is creative, yet fun and heartwarming.

If none of these ideas spark your interest, you could also bake for your significant other.

Cookies, cake, truffles, and brownies — the possibilities are endless.

Simply appealing to your partner through their sweet tooth is something to consider this Valentine’s Day.

If all of these gift ideas are too expensive for your pocket book, simply make your boyfriend or girlfriend a card.

Put time and effort into it with a touching message; even this will melt your partner’s heart.

To me, it’s a day that celebrates love and relationships — a day to appreciate the people we know and love.

Senior Devon Seelman believes that Valentine’s Day is a time for appreciation.

“To me, it’s a day that celebrates love and relationships — a day to appreciate the people we know and love,” Seelman said.

No matter what, it is important to always remember that this holiday is not about gifts or dinner but spending time with your valentine.

Make the day special and do not stress over every detail — just focus on having fun and making your partner feel special.
