The cheer team hits a motion during round one at Flushing on Saturday, Jan 9.

The Hornets took second place on Saturday, Jan. 9, at the Flushing Cheer Invitational.

The Clio Mustangs won the competition.

The cheer team was roughly five points away from tying for first.

Junior Hailey Baltosser was disappointed that the Hornets did not win.

“We were so close to winning but just fell short on round three,” Baltosser said. “We did super well during round two, but during round three too many stunts dropped, which really penalized our score.”

The team has also suffered three injuries this past week.

“I just recently injured my foot and a few other girls have also gotten hurt,” Baltosser said. “We have had to put in girls (at the) last minute, which has made things hectic. But they all did really well.”

The Hornets next competition is a league meet on Wednesday, Jan. 13, at Brandon.
